Composed in 1956 by Henri Tomasi (1901-1971), French composer, conductor and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1927, this Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra has a strong French signature and lasts 16 minutes. The first movementstarts with the trombone and ends with a waltz theme, the second movement is built on an ostinato that makes the trombone sound more lyrical. The third movement is based on the two first ones, with South American rhythms and endswith a virtuosic part played by the trombone.

Lindberg is noted for his performances of contemporary music, as well as expanding the repertoire of concerti for trombone. In 2006, he estimated that over the prior 25 years, composers wrote 82 works for him.[6] On 7 September 2017, Lindberg gave his 100th trombone concerto premiere.[7] Lindberg was the soloist in the premiere of Sandström's Motorbike Concerto. In addition to the Sandström, his repertoire includes Luciano Berio's Sequenza V, Fredrik Högberg's The Ballad of Kit Bones and Su ba do be.

Lindberg began to compose in the 1990s at the encouragement of Sandström. Lindberg's first-performed work was Arabenne for trombone and strings, recorded in 1997. Other compositions have included Mandrake in the Corner, Chick 'a' bone Checkout, from 2006 and written for Charles Vernon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra,[6] and Kundraan (2008).[8]

Lindberg developed his own design of trombone F attachment valve rotor, which he patented in 1999 in collaboration with instrument manufacturer C.G. Conn. It features shallower curvature and only a 45 turn, for a more open-blowing valve register than a regular rotary valve.[9] Conn produce a line of instruments built with this valve, which they market as the "CL2000".[10]

Auditions will be held for tenor trombone and/or bass trombone, depending on the opening. Applicants must submit a screening video with the application to be considered for the live auditions. Applicants will be notified in January of their live audition status.

Since the earliest days of the clarinet's history, composers have continually challenged players with very technically demanding music. Today, when one studies the concertos of Mozart, Weber, and Spohr, it is easy to forget that the instruments of the time were much less developed compared to the instruments of today. At the time of their composition, these works presented immense technical challenges to performers, and still do today. As advances were made in instrument design and key work, and the level of performance proficiency continued to rise, composers continued to push the technical limits for clarinetists. Fast forward to the present, and there are milestone compositions for the clarinet written in the last 90 years that rank as the most difficult works ever written for the instrument. 2ff7e9595c
